Summary
The board approved two Fund 41 capital contracts (Kennedy Middle concrete and Dreamfield dugouts), advanced a transportation contract recommendation with Go Right Way (with a parent/staff survey), and adopted several policy updates including audiovisual materials and visitor procedures.
At its Aug. 19 meeting the Germantown School District Board of Education approved multiple capital projects and policy updates and advanced a transportation contract recommendation for further public input.
The board approved a recommendation from the Finance Committee to award Kennedy Middle School front-walkway concrete replacement to Deangelis Construction LLC in an amount not to exceed $41,277.50, to be funded from Fund 41 (Capital Improvements). The Finance Committee likewise recommended, and the board approved, a time-and-material contract with JP Cullen for Dreamfield dugout replacement not to exceed $166,241, also funded from Fund 41. Committee discussion noted options for poured concrete walls with rebar versus CMU block and requested follow-up with the contractor on footing and constructability details.
On transportation, the Ad Hoc Transportation Committee reported a proposed 2025–2030 contract with Go Right Way. The committee recommended including a parental and staff survey; the board directed staff to collect survey results and make a decision on elementary start/end time changes by Jan. 31, 2026. Committee members emphasized the timing challenges of changing start times close to the school year and recommended keeping families’ planning needs in mind.
Policy committee items that passed included new policy 25.24 (audio/visual materials) with administrative guidelines for titles, ratings and release/version dates; updates to policy 0166 to align agenda formatting; a bulk package of policy revisions (26 policies reviewed, 24 revised, one rescinded and one replaced); and updates to policies defining classroom libraries and the library media center (policy 100) and to policy 91.50 (school visitors), which now includes notification expectations for the district administrator when board members visit schools.
The board also approved routine consent items including teacher contracts, resignations and donations to athletics and programs, and granted overnight-travel approval for a Germantown High School team to travel to competition in Florida (students and advisers will fund the trip). An additional fall coaching contract (assistant boys volleyball coach Chase Anderson) was approved.
All motions reported in the meeting passed on voice votes or unanimous approvals as recorded in the minutes; the board did not identify any opposing votes on the recorded items.
Next steps: staff will follow up with bidders on constructability details for the Dreamfield dugouts, administer the Go Right Way survey and report results before Jan. 31, 2026, and implement approved policy changes.
