Committee backs district office "refresh," citing air-quality and aging finishes

Summary
The Buildings & Grounds Committee recommended that the finance committee consider a district office refresh after presentations that cited aging carpeting, failing ceiling insulation and black air-handling filters; scope and funding will be determined by finance.
The Germantown School District Buildings & Grounds Committee voted July 15 to forward a positive recommendation to the finance committee for a district office “refresh,” which committee members described as a targeted alteration rather than a full renovation.
Mr. Lord told the committee the district office, built in 1991, is showing wear: carpeting and flooring are deteriorating, much of the support-staff furniture is not fully functional, ceiling tiles and insulation require replacement, and air-handling unit filters show heavy soiling. He described the project as primarily in-house work for painting and installations but said some elements require committee approval because they alter a district building.
A committee member clarified the Buildings & Grounds Committee must approve alterations before staff seeks a funding source from the finance committee. Speaker 4 summarized the scope as removal and replacement of ceiling insulation and tile, carpet removal and replacement, and replacements or repairs to cubicles and support furniture.
A motion was made to give a positive recommendation to the finance committee to approve the district office refresh project; it was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The finance committee will review funding options and return a decision on budget and contract authority.
