Douglas County board honors 52 students who scored perfect on Georgia Milestones tests

MADAM CHAIR — The Douglas County School System board paused its business meeting on Sept. 15 to honor 52 students who achieved perfect scores on one or more sections of the Georgia Milestones assessments.
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Kayasha Davis read the names of students from multiple elementary, middle and high schools and explained that the Georgia Milestones (GMAS) are statewide end-of-grade or end-of-course assessments. “Scoring at the distinguished learner level on any of the assessments is something to celebrate,” Davis said, adding that the students honored had each earned perfect scores on a GMAS assessment.
Board reaction: An unidentified board member congratulated the students and praised parents, administrators and teachers. Later in the meeting Miss Simmons asked the district to consider ways to celebrate a larger share of students — including for growth as well as top scores — across the district’s more than 26,000 students.
What’s next: The recognition was ceremonial; no policy action was attached to the recognition item.
