She also recognized the boys track team as county champions and praised the students for school records and personal bests.
Fonda Strong, principal of Fair Play Middle School, presented the Fair Play Jaguars, noting the team claimed its third championship in four years and provided season statistics (hits, runs, batting averages and strikeouts) and a roster of players and coaches.
On operational matters, Dr. North updated the board on graduation plans. He said the district's first graduation will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Legacy Arena and asked parents without parking passes to park at Douglas County High School, where buses will shuttle guests to the arena with police assisting traffic control. "We will have a crew on staff" starting three hours before each graduation and staff and principals have been asked to communicate logistical details to families, he said. Dr. North emphasized accommodations for guests with mobility needs and that the district is refining procedures based on last year's experience.
The board recessed briefly, approved routine consent and personnel items, and adjourned after member comments. The next meeting is scheduled for June 16.
