Oswego trustees approve routine consent items, grants and an alley vacation; honor retiring library director

At its Sept. 16 meeting the Village of Oswego Board of Trustees handled several routine and local-development matters and paused for community recognitions.
Among routine actions the board approved Committee of the Whole and regular board minutes, a resolution supporting the Illinois America 250 commemoration, an ordinance granting a variance from section 9.03 of the Unified Development Ordinance for a detached garage at 316 Chicago Road, and a labor agreement authorization with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150. The board also approved a task order with RJN Group, Inc. for Main Street sanitary design and a repayment agreement for water and sewer charges with Oswego Community School District 308. Trustees approved the bill list in the amount of $394,512.05.
Reappointments: trustees approved reappointing Charlie Pager and Joel Pyle to the Planning & Zoning Commission for terms expiring 10/06/2029.
Economic incentives and property actions: staff recommended and trustees approved a grant of up to $5,000 to Tri County Insurance (44 Monroe Street) to support a parking-lot repaving project and a $5,000 award to the Oswego Area Chamber of Commerce (25 East Jackson Street) for shared parking-lot improvements. Staff noted the grant program was revised in July to permit certain exterior improvements and that the projects are located in a TIF district. Trustees also approved an ordinance vacating three-quarters of a public alley immediately west of and adjacent to 55–61 Main Street to allow owners to construct a permanent patio area; the village and utilities will retain permanent easements and the applicant will reimburse the village for vacation costs (estimated $2,000–$3,000).
Community recognitions: President Ryan Kaufman presented a proclamation honoring Sarah Skelton for more than 25 years of library service and multiple trustees thanked Skelton for her leadership. The board also recognized local artist Beth Berry and noted her exhibit in Village Hall.
