Orange Beach council hears pitch for EPIC student entrepreneurship program and seeks mentors

Tara McMeans told the Orange Beach City Council on Sept. 2 that EPIC (Entrepreneur Program Impacting Communities) is expanding and seeks community mentors and sponsors. "We have a program called EPIC, which stands for Entrepreneur Program Impacting Communities," McMeans said, adding that the program serves students in seventh through twelfth grade across South Baldwin County and uses an online curriculum hosted by Coastal Alabama Community College.
McMeans said EPIC received 25 applications this year but has an enrollment cap of about 20 because of scheduling; she estimated final participation will likely be "somewhere between, you know, maybe around 15 to 20." She urged residents and businesses to volunteer as mentors or to sponsor students with donations "as little as $50" and left informational sheets in the council lobby and directed interested people to sbchamberfoundation.org.
Council members asked clarifying questions about capacity and scheduling; staff and presenters confirmed the applicant/cap figures and explained that some applicants cannot participate because of conflicts with meeting nights.
The presentation required no vote. Staff said EPIC meets monthly at Coastal Alabama Community College in Gulf Shores and includes mentors, sponsors and committee members from across South Baldwin County. The council thanked McMeans and encouraged community engagement.
