Donations and grants fund Greenup County boat ramp upgrades, officials say

At the Aug. 12 meeting, Greenup County Judge Executive Bobby Hall credited private donors and state partners for recent improvements to the county boat ramp and rec area.
Hall said Kevin and his crew poured new concrete at the ramp at no charge to the county. Philip Tolliver and his team at Kentucky Power donated and installed light poles at no cost, and Jimmy Tackett of Old Town and Mountain Enterprises donated more than $70,000 in asphalt. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife installed a handicap-accessible boat dock at no cost to the county. Grant writer Eric Patton and Lance Warwick worked on a rubber-tire grant that funded recycled-tire tables and benches and contributed matching funds for a new picnic shelter.
"We have no money of the counties in those projects because of grants and donations," Hall said. He added that the ramp is used by people from three states, supports tourism and helps emergency management teams and first responders by providing a location to launch safety vessels.
Officials did not provide a consolidated dollar total for all donations or grants during the meeting; specific gift agreements and grant award documents were not read into the record.
