Light-duty shop roof: Public Works recommended WJ Kirksey Construction as the lowest responsive bidder for roof replacement (Reference 26-003) at a contract amount of $143,809 with a 120-day timeline; commissioners approved the recommendation.
Fire truck repair: Fleet requested authorization to repair a 2004 fire truck’s pump unit at an estimated cost of $60,107.71 at an authorized Pierce Apparatus repair facility; staff explained the pump failed NFPA pump testing and replacing the pump is significantly less expensive than buying a new truck. The commission approved the repair request.
Patrol rifles: The police department presented a request to purchase 30 patrol rifles from Sons of Liberty Gun Works to standardize weapon systems for ALERT-trained personnel and ensure secure mounts and storage; commissioners asked about secure vehicle mounts and vaults; the presentation will result in a procurement action in line with the department’s phased replacement plan.
Agenda adoption and executive session: The commission adopted the work-session agenda by motion and later moved into executive session to discuss real estate matters; after the executive session the mayor said no action was taken.
Commissioners discussed constituent concerns and code-enforcement matters during member comments, including an abandoned tire shop near a church and tree-root damage prompting requests for staff follow-up.
