Campbell County fiscal court voted to authorize participation in the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan and related settlements with certain secondary manufacturers, a move county staff characterized as consistent with prior practice among jurisdictions nationwide.
"This is related to the ongoing opioid settlement litigation," County Administrator Matt told the court while introducing resolution r58-25. He said the county’s share of any proceeds will not be immediately known because funds are first routed through the state and then allocated, and the county would also account for legal-fee allocations.
Matt framed the vote as one of the county’s options — either participate in the nationwide settlement framework or pursue separate litigation. "It’s been our practice to participate in these national settlements," he said.
A commissioner moved to approve resolution r58-25; the court approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tally in the transcript. County staff did not provide an immediate estimate of the county’s dollar recovery, saying allocations and distributions will be determined through state-level and multi-jurisdictional processes.
The resolution authorizes the judge executive to execute settlement participation forms related to the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan and related manufacturers. No further action was taken at the meeting to allocate any funds until the state and settlement administrators confirm local allocations.
