Muskegon County commissioners approve committee items, set budget work session and highlight community events

Muskegon County commissioners moved and approved a slate of committee items reported by several standing committees at the Aug. 21 meeting. Reports came from Community Development & Strategic Planning (items CDSB 2508 series), Courts & Public Safety, Human Services (HS items), Transportation (TR2508-1), and Ways & Means. Many committee items were moved en bloc, supported, and adopted without extended debate.
The board also scheduled a board work session to discuss the proposed 2026 budget on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 4:00 p.m.; Commissioner Sears moved to set the work session and the motion was supported and passed. Several roll-call counts during committee-item votes were summarized verbally by the clerk and reported as affirmative (including a reported seven "yes" votes on a transportation item).
Administrative announcements included community events: 'Touch the Trucks' at Hackley Park on Aug. 21 (6–8 a.m.); the West Michigan United Labor Day Parade on Sept. 1 (11 a.m.–2 p.m.) in downtown Muskegon; and 'Sportsman's for Youth' on Sept. 6 (9 a.m.–3 p.m.) at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds. The board also recognized Sarah Cooper as a finalist for a Young Athena Award, and a local attendee, Cathy Moore, was acknowledged in the chamber.
No substantive public comments were received during the public-comment portions of the meeting.
The meeting adjourned after the announcements; no additional formal business was scheduled beyond the August 28 budget work session.
