The Muskegon County Board approved CPS25-07-19, a cooperative law enforcement agreement between the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, and authorized the sheriff to sign the agreement.
Sheriff Kevin Sanford described the agreement as an annual arrangement that supports patrols on trails and in parks, as well as training and equipment costs for deputies who perform cooperative enforcement in areas without county forestland.
"We can utilize the equipment we have," Sanford said, adding that patrols will check trail permits, licensing and related compliance in partnership with the Forest Service.
The board moved and carried the measure; commissioners voted in favor and the motion was recorded as carried.
