The Bracken County Fiscal Court approved two items related to the Bracken County Judicial Center: a two-year HVAC/annual-maintenance contract with HMC and a weekend mold-remediation contract with Dry Effect Restoration Services for $10,462.93.
Staff explained AOC (Administrative Office of the Courts) preapproved the HMC contract and indicated the contract would be integrated into quarterly reimbursements from AOC. The judge's office presented air-quality testing results and a remediation scope for contamination discovered in the district courtroom and jury room. The remediation contractor will use sealed containment and air scrubbers; staff said the work is scheduled to occur on a weekend to limit court disruption. The court voted to approve both the HMC contract and the remediation work by roll-call votes.
Commissioners then debated whether to shift to a contracted maintenance coordinator dedicated to the Judicial Center (individual or company), to continue current county maintenance support, or to bid janitorial/landscaping/grounds work separately. Staff described AOC reimbursement rules and indicated any changes would be routed through AOC for approval; no final hiring decision was made. The court authorized staff to solicit bids for landscaping, mowing and snow removal for the Judicial Center property and to return with bonding/insurance details and recommendations.
