Fiscal Court keeps Health Department tax rate flat at $0.73; approves EMS compensating rate and awards inspection contract

Bracken County Fiscal Court voted Aug. 13 to keep the Bracken County Health Department taxing district rate unchanged at $0.73 per $100 of assessed value. John Veil, representing the health district, said the department will expand school mental-health programming, resume diabetes education after a small grant, and offer flu shots the week of Labor Day. The court approved the presented rate without change.
The court then heard from Trent Weiss, chairman of the Bracken County EMS board, and Penny Doyle, EMS director. Weiss said the EMS board recommended the compensating tax rate of 0.098 (motor-vehicle and watercraft rates at 0.049). He also reported that a remodeling project had been approved and inspections/inspection-fee approvals were pending.
For the CDBG-funded EMS building renovation, the court reviewed three inspection quotes and approved the lowest bid from Veil Craig at $15,851.40; the board had already approved the contractor the day before but fiscal-court approval was required because the grant flows through the county. The court also approved related inspection fee actions so the renovation may proceed once insurance and inspection paperwork are in order.
All tax-rate and contract votes passed by roll-call.
