Dr. Sonia Thomas was confirmed to the elected officials compensation commission for a term ending 07/31/2031. Dr. Thomas, who described herself as a longtime Auburn Hills resident and leadership-development director involved with area youth programs, told the council she is “honored and humble” to be nominated. The motion to confirm Dr. Thomas was moved by Councilmember Ferguson and seconded by Dr. Fletcher; the motion carried on a recorded vote of members present.
Tamara (Tammy) Walker was confirmed to the election commission for a term ending 12/31/2027. Walker summarized election-inspector and chairperson experience beginning in 2008 and said she was “committed to using this hands-on knowledge to serve our community.” That motion was moved by Dr. Fletcher and seconded by Ms. Rebecki and passed by the council.
Itonya (Atani) Montgomery was appointed to finish a vacated Zoning Board of Appeals term ending 07/31/2027. Montgomery noted 46 years of Auburn Hills residency and prior volunteer work; her confirmation motion was moved by Ms. Verbecki and seconded by Dr. Fletcher and carried by recorded vote.
Jordan Van Keuren was confirmed to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term ending 07/31/2028 after introducing himself and saying he hoped to begin a long period of civic service. The motion was moved by Ms. Rebecchi and seconded by Mr. Ferguson and passed on the council floor.
The council also reappointed Jay Belter to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term ending 07/31/2028; Belter was not present for the vote. Councilmember Ferguson moved the reappointment, seconded by Councilmember Knight; the motion passed by recorded vote.
All appointment motions passed by recorded vote of members present. No council member voted ‘no’ on these items in the meeting record; one council member (McDaniel) was listed as absent at roll call.
