The Burton City Council voted to schedule a public hearing on June 23 at 6 p.m. to consider a proposed roundabout at Belsey and Bristol Road, city staff said.
City administrator Paul Abbe told the council the project was selected as part of a safety grant with the county and the Michigan Department of Transportation and that the city must publish two public notices to meet the hearing requirements. Abbe said staff would need to publish those notices in the coming week to meet the timing of a hearing the week of June 23.
Councilman Heffner moved to add the hearing to the agenda; Councilman Wines supported the motion. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as voting yes.
The hearing is intended to provide residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed roundabout and the safety grant that would fund it. City staff said project timelines depend on grant and MDOT approvals and on weather that could affect construction schedules.
The council added the hearing as Item 6 and directed staff to prepare the required notices and include the item on the June 23 agenda. No final decision on construction was made at the meeting; the hearing will be the next formal step in the process.
