Belgrade awards 2025 pavement preservation contract to CKMA Excavating for about $447,679

The Belgrade City Council authorized the city manager to sign the notice of award and contract documents for the 2025 pavement preservation project after staff recommended awarding the work to CKMA Excavating as the apparent low bidder.
Public Works reported six responsive bids and said CKMA submitted the lowest responsible bid at $447,678.50 for a 0.15-foot plant-mix overlay in the neighborhood south of Butler Creek and west to Thirteenth Street, generally bounded by Frontage Road and Jackrabbit. The project will be fully funded by Montana fuel tax revenue and includes a completion date of Nov. 15, 2025.
City staff said the low bid may allow the city to add a couple additional streets by change order to make the overlay coverage more comprehensive. After brief questions from council about the engineer’s internal estimate and bid-spread, Council moved to authorize the city manager to sign the notice of award and associated change orders once received; the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will execute contract documents and coordinate scheduling with CKMA Excavating to attempt construction this fall and will return to council if adjustments to assessments or change orders are required.
