Catherine King, community and economic development director, told the council the downtown TIF was established in 2017 and this would be the district’s first project. She said the city intends to acquire the recently available property to facilitate future redevelopment aligned with the urban‑renewal plan, increase taxable value and thereby grow the TIF and overall tax base.
During public comment, a resident asked about the purchase’s purpose; King reiterated the goal is to reposition the Main Street parcel for commercial reuse and increase its contribution to the district’s tax increment. Council moved and seconded authorization for the city manager to sign all related documents; the motion carried unanimously. The council did not record additional conditions beyond the contingencies in the purchase agreement.
