Gallatin County Commission continues several subdivision matters, debates open-ended continuances

The Gallatin County Commission continued multiple land-use items at its Aug. 19 meeting and discussed the practice of leaving continuances open-ended.
Staff said applicants asked that the common boundary relocation exemption for item 5 be continued to Sept. 2, when a full commission will be present. The chair asked whether commissioners agreed; they did, and the chair noted Sept. 2 is the Tuesday after Labor Day.
The commission also noted that the Montana Habitat major subdivision (item 7) remained continued to a date uncertain and that the Anderson Meadows preliminary plat (item 8) had been continued to Oct. 21. A commissioner raised concern that leaving continuances 'date uncertain' can be unfair to applicants and staff and asked whether statutes or county regulations set a limit on continuances. County staff replied they would research statutory timelines and follow up.
The chair suggested, as a practical matter, setting continuances no later than the end of calendar year 2025 as a default, and commissioners agreed that the matter can be revised at a future open meeting.
