Fallon County residents press commissioners to replace Norah/County Road with gravel, not scoria

Fallon County commissioners heard from residents and road staff who urged a longer‑lasting fix for Norah/County Road, which several speakers said is failing in wet weather and poses a hazard to emergency vehicles.

An unnamed resident who spoke at the start of the meeting said the road, installed in the 1970s, needs gravel, arguing "I want gravel" because scoria patches have repeatedly failed and gravel would last much longer. Road staff and others described recent shoulder work on a nearby stretch and said it has performed well in short term trials. Foreman Bridal was identified as expected to visit the site and make a recommendation to commissioners.

Commissioners and staff discussed short‑term measures such as patching with scoria and grading, and longer‑term resurfacing or hauling several loads of gravel. Road staff noted limited county gravel supplies and suggested checking a newly arrived 5,000‑yard pile at Ollie and measuring available stock before committing to hauling. They also flagged liability concerns if the county does more than temporary patching without easements or clear maintenance authority for private driveways.

No formal motion to fund full resurfacing was made during the discussion; staff said they would inspect the shoulder and gravel availability, confer with Bridal, and return with a recommendation or schedule another meeting within one to two weeks. The county clerk recorded the discussion for the minutes.
