Carbon County commissioners voted Aug. 5 to approve a demolition task order for a county site, awarding the work to Cushing Terrell as the lowest responsive bidder. The motion to proceed with Cushing Terrell carried by voice vote.
Board members asked for and received clarification about the contractor’s proposed pricing. A project representative said the $42,050 figure is the total contract amount; the proposal itemizes “basic services” and “supplemental services” in AIA contract language, which is why individual line items (for example a $38,000 basic-services line and a $4,500 supplemental-services line) appear separately but together add to the total. The firm said a limited site survey is included now to confirm utility terminations and that more detailed post-demolition survey work will occur during rebuild planning.
Commissioners and staff discussed schedule effects after a roughly one-month delay in the bid/advertisement timeline. Consultant and county speakers estimated the procurement process would take about a month, with contract execution and purchase orders taking another approximately 30 days before demolition crews could mobilize, placing likely on-the-ground work near the turn of the year. Board members asked that demolition timing be coordinated with programming and temporary storage needs for the future facility to avoid costly rework.
The board approved the motion to award the demolition task order to Cushing Terrell and directed staff to keep the project team and stakeholders informed of the updated schedule.
