Midland welcomes three students from sister city in Honda, Japan

Midland City Council heard from representatives of the city’s long‑standing sister‑city relationship with Honda, Japan, and met three visiting exchange students. John Metcalfe, chair of the Sister City Committee, reviewed the 44‑year exchange and said Midland has hosted about 114 exchange students over the years; this year the city hosted three students: Kota Ito, Rei Nagaya and Misa Niinagawa.
Each student spoke briefly and expressed gratitude to their host families and the community. Kota Ito said Midland’s nature and kindness made his stay “a precious treasure,” and Misa Niinagawa described being touched by birthday celebrations organized by community members. Metcalfe said the program alternates sending and hosting and that the committee will post an application for students to be sent next year.
Mayor Donker and council members thanked the committee and invited a group photo after the presentation.
