Taylor council approves routine contracts, grant and personnel actions; YubiKey purchase cleared with review

Procurement and capital: The council approved multiple purchases and contracts under the consent agenda, including five Dell ProTower computers (not to exceed $5,154), three EV emergency plugs (not to exceed $3,045), maintenance contracts for fire station systems (not to exceed $7,520), vehicle purchases, fencing and concrete pad installation, and other capital outlays as listed in the consent packet.
IT security purchase: Council approved a low‑quote purchase of 400 YubiKey multifactor authentication devices for $31,664 (not to exceed $31,664) funded from IT contractual services. A member of the public questioned why the quoted unit price exceeded some online listings; city staff and the mayor said vendor quotes and FIPS certification explained the difference and agreed to confirm that the vendor quote covers the certified, identical item. The council approved moving forward with the caveat that staff confirm the device is identical and, if a lower‑cost identical option exists through approved vendors, pursue that option.
Other procedural items: Council postponed the public hearing on the appeal of Bigley's Brews business‑license suspension to Aug. 19, 2025, and approved several other budget and service items by unanimous or near‑unanimous votes.
What happens next: The MIDC contract will be executed by the mayor; IT staff will verify YubiKey specifications and pricing post‑approval; the Bigley's Brews appeal, the towing ballot item and separate‑counsel requests will return on Aug. 19 for further consideration.
