Board hears bids for PAC renovation and approves procurement plan for bus navigation system

The board reviewed a $460,567 low bid from Bak Builders for Performing Arts Center interior renovations (funded by E-Plus) and was briefed on a $134,849 Transfinder bus navigation system purchase to be installed on 65 buses.
Mr. Jackson told the board the district plans interior renovations at the Performing Arts Center (built 1999) including painting, restroom upgrades and conversion from fluorescent to LED lighting. Bids were received from four vendors; Bak Builders offered the lowest and best-value bid at $460,567. The project was not originally in the FY26 capital project list; Jackson said finance will amend the capital budget to include the work and the tentative construction schedule is September to November.
Jackson also presented a proposal to install Transfinder navigation systems on 65 buses to provide turn-by-turn vocal directions for drivers and to improve routing accuracy for substitute drivers. Installation is expected to take 60 days following delivery; the fiscal impact is $134,849 charged to the transportation budget and included in the current budget plans.
Board members asked about scheduling of PAC events during renovation and about driver pre-runs and training; Jackson said drivers would begin in-service training and route pre-runs prior to the first day of school and that software updates are included in the contract.
