Jenks Public Works Authority authorizes $226,013 payment to ODOT for 121st Street trail

The Jenks Public Works Authority on Dec. 2 approved authorization to pay a construction invoice to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation of $226,013 for the 121st Street trail project from Elm Street to Elwood Avenue.
City Engineer Mister Wilkins briefed the authority: ODOT handled bidding and the overall project low bid came in at $888,471, higher than earlier estimates. Wilkins said Jenks’ share of the cost is $226,013. He described the planned trail as a 10-foot-wide asphalt corridor with concrete edges to reduce grass encroachment; the trail will generally meander along the south side in the project area.
Council asked whether the funds came from the GO plan; Wilkins and staff said the project is an ODOT Federal-Aid Project (FAP) and the costs discussed were covered through that program (Jenks’ portion is the $226,013). Councilmembers also discussed maintenance and the potential reduction in right-of-way mowing costs where trails are installed.
A motion to authorize payment was made and seconded; the authority recorded a unanimous vote in favor.
The item will be covered by the Jenks Public Works Authority capital fund and follow standard ODOT project closeout procedures.
