Tucker council approves multiple resurfacing, sidewalk and street reconstruction contracts

Tucker — During its Aug. 11 meeting the council approved a package of infrastructure contracts covering paving, sidewalks and a street reconstruction project.

Public works reported 12 bids on the fall resurfacing package and recommended awarding to MHB Contractors at a low bid of $2,148,174.37 plus a 5% contingency. Funding will come from a combination of LMEC (state), SPLOST and capital funds; council approved the contract.

The council also approved a Midvale Road sidewalk contract (community‑requested gap fill and a relocated pedestrian signal) based on three quotes; the low proposer (Construction 57, as transcribed) was cited at $165,982 and staff recommended awarding that contract to fill a sidewalk gap and provide a safer crossing point.

The Richardson Street reconstruction project (reconnecting a previously disconnected segment to improve safety and response times) received a low bid from R & B Developer for $1,576,329 plus a 5% contingency; council approved the construction contract. As part of that project the council also approved a Georgia Power lighting services agreement (~$73,000) to install and maintain decorative street lighting, and a construction engineering and inspection services contract with Lowe Engineers (~$218,000) to provide CEI oversight.

Public works said the Richardson alignment moves the intersection farther from an adjacent US‑78 ramp and will include curb and gutter, repaving, six‑foot sidewalk on one side, and new decorative lighting.

What’s next: Contractors will mobilize on their respective projects per contract schedules; staff will coordinate final schedules and public notifications for road closures and construction impacts.
