Commission approves multiple budget amendments; staff presents $45,936 annual jail maintenance quote

Cheatham County commissioners approved multiple budget items and amendments at their Nov. 17 meeting and discussed maintenance planning for the county’s new jail.

Finance staff presented a set of budget lines for other general government projects and jail funding (items listed in the packet included amounts such as $10,599.29 and $23,022.22 for general government projects and $522,670 and $4,801 for jail line items). Commissioners moved and passed motions to approve the listed budget amendments and transfers on roll call.

Separately, staff reported they received an annual preventative‑maintenance quote from Lee Company for the new jail at $45,936. The package would cover quarterly, semiannual and annual inspections and maintenance tasks across multiple systems: the presentation listed 32 water-source heat pumps, 17 makeup-air units, 27 split air units, 21 smoke/exhaust fans, boilers, a cooling tower, water heaters and circulation pumps. Staff said the proposal would not replace county maintenance staff but could supplement preventive care and provide inspection reports to guide in‑house maintenance.

Commissioners discussed warranty coverage, whether field services are included, and incorporating maintenance costs into future budgets. Staff said the matter did not require immediate action but would return for further consideration; the jail committee planned to meet before the next workshop to refine options and bring hard numbers back for a December decision.
