Brookhaven council approves pedestrian‑bridge engineering, greenway and other infrastructure contracts

Brookhaven City Council on July 22 approved several infrastructure contract actions and a midyear budget amendment to fund engineering work for a proposed gateway pedestrian bridge over I‑85.

Staff said the council should appropriate about $1.78 million for engineering the I‑85 pedestrian bridge and to adjust the special tax district fund for midyear changes. Council approved the budget amendment by voice vote.

Council then approved a contract task order with Michael Baker International to complete survey, geotechnical engineering, architectural services, and permitting to develop construction documents for the proposed bridge. The move followed council review of the scope and costs the city staff and Public Works prepared.

The council also approved Supplemental Agreement No. 3 with Heath and Linebeck in the amount of $69,528.11 for additional services on PI 16053 Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase 2. Staff said the supplementary work (tree survey, level‑2 tree health assessments and additional archaeological reporting) is eligible for federal funding that the city will pursue.

Separately, Public Works presented a priority corrugated metal pipe rehabilitation Phase 1 project to repair a heavily corroded 24‑inch pipe under Shady Valley Drive; council approved a $158,000 contract with Federal EC, LLC. Council also approved $37,000 in additional services to inventory and assess an additional 330 sidewalk ramps and pedestrian assets (including lighting and guardrail) and to integrate the data into GIS for repair prioritization.

Motions on the bridge task order, the greenway supplement, the culvert rehabilitation and the sidewalk ramp inventory passed by voice vote; no roll‑call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
