Todd County Fiscal Court approved a set of budget transfers and moved forward a tax-rates ordinance on first reading while voting to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for historic-courthouse projects.
Budget moves: Christie presented budget transfers to restore insurance funds and to cover jail and payroll needs. The court approved transfers by voice vote and specifically agreed to place approximately $100,000 into the jail fund and to transfer about $18,682.76 into the payroll account for the new fiscal year.
Tax rates: During the meeting the presiding official introduced a first reading of a tax-rates ordinance (recorded in the transcript as "ordinance 25 edge 5") proposing to keep county rates unchanged: 9.9 mills for real and personal property and 10.1 mills for motor vehicles and watercraft. The court moved, seconded and then took a roll call. Laura Turner, Laura Blake, Laura Oliver, Laura Brown and 'Judge' voted "Yes" on the first reading. The presiding official said the county will advertise and hold a public hearing before the second reading.
CDBG applications and historic courthouse work: The court approved resolution 25-11 to apply for a CDBG award (listed as $85,000 in the transcript) for upgrades and renovations to the 1835 courthouse. The court also approved resolution 25-12 to apply for a 2025 CDBG grant of $850,000 (transcribed amount) for a historic-courthouse project identified in the meeting.
Other business: The court was told a delinquent tax sale for 2024 bills is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 14; the treasurer cautioned that having a prior-year payment plan does not protect 2024 bills unless the taxpayer has arranged a current plan. Jail administrator Kenny James reported Tucker County Jail housed 121 inmates (42 county, 79 state) and provided monthly revenue figures.
What’s next: The court will advertise the tax-rate proposal and hold a public hearing ahead of a second reading. Approved grant applications will proceed through the CDBG process; no further county votes on the grants were recorded in this meeting.
