Board authorizes $71,800 purchase of 1/0 aluminum wire to replenish utility inventory

A warehouse operations representative demonstrated the conductor and explained reasons the utility uses aluminum conductor in distribution. Board members asked why more vendors did not bid; procurement staff said several solicited vendors declined to bid or indicated they do not supply that product. The board heard that the typical lead time is six to eight weeks for delivery.
The chair moved to authorize staff to enter the contract with TriState Utility Products for $71,800 to purchase 20,000 feet of 1/0 aluminum wire. The board approved the authorization by roll call.
Staff said they will coordinate inventory levels with planned capital projects to avoid over- or under-stocking and will revisit reorder quantities if project timing changes.
