Board authorizes $71,800 purchase of 20,000 ft of utility wire to restock warehouse

Staff recommended TriState Utility Products of Marietta, Georgia, to supply 20,000 feet of 1/0 aluminum utility conductor for $71,800 to refill warehouse stock and support planned distribution and capital projects. Staff and warehouse personnel explained that 20,000 feet is a typical inventory level and that lead time is about six to eight weeks.
Board members asked why more vendors did not bid and discussed the tradeoffs between keeping larger inventories and warehouse storage limits. Staff said some potential suppliers declined because market demand and pricing made sales to private customers more attractive than public bids. After brief discussion, the board moved, seconded and voted to authorize staff to enter the contract with TriState.
