Albany board approves $71,800 contract for 20,000 feet of aluminum utility conductor

The Albany Utility Board voted Aug. 14 to authorize staff to enter a contract to purchase 20,000 feet of No. 1 A/T aluminum utility conductor from TriState Utility Products of Marietta, Georgia, for $71,800.
Staff said bid reference number 2582 was publicly solicited to 11 vendors through the Georgia procurement registry; one bid was submitted and staff followed up with nonresponding vendors to determine reasons for nonparticipation. Procurement and utility staff said two vendors responded that they do not supply the requested product. Utility operations staff explained that the 20,000-foot quantity is a standard replenishment level and that the warehouse typically keeps a min/max inventory that would make the material last roughly six to nine months depending on project activity. Lead time from the selected vendor was cited at about six to eight weeks.
During discussion, board members asked whether purchasing a larger quantity would be preferable given upcoming capital projects that will use conductor; staff said warehouse space and project timing constrain order size and that the warehouse must manage stock levels prudently.
The motion to authorize staff to enter the contract passed on a roll call vote.
