Inspector documents rotted foundation at 2324 Magazine Street; board sets May 9 deadline for full compliance

At the March 28 Louisville Metro Code Enforcement Board hearing, code enforcement supervisor Lakin Girdley told the board an inspector found structural deterioration at 2324 Magazine Street and presented photographs documenting rotted foundation wood, broken siding and deteriorated window frames.
"On 01/02/2025, our sixth visit to the property, we placed an $800 penalty for no compliance on driveway or paved areas, no compliance on exterior surfaces, no compliance on windows," Girdley said, and later reported a 03/26/2025 return visit that found partial compliance on exterior surfaces and total compliance on windows and paved areas while photos still showed rotted wood at the foundation.
Attorney Ken Plotnick and property representative John Schenkenfelder asked for additional time to complete work. Wonteland allowed an extension and set a compliance deadline of May 9, 2025, for total compliance, adding that the owner may get earlier sign-off from the inspector if repairs are finished before that date.
The board asked staff to verify repairs; if work is completed prior to May 9, the inspector may sign off and remove the matter from the docket. No new fines or alternate remedies were announced at the hearing.
