Committee approves multiple contracts; sidewalk, demolition and transit items move forward or are deferred
Summary
The committee approved numerous contracts (including emergency demolitions, ARPA-funded construction amendments, fire and transportation contracts) and sent many items to formal session or new business; the sidewalk-replacement contract (7.6) was sent to formal without recommendation and a handful of items were deferred for corrected documents.
The Public Health & Safety Committee on Monday voted to approve a slate of contracts and to refer several items for further review.
Motions without objection approved multiple items (7.1 and 7.3–7.5, 7.7, 7.8–7.14 and 7.15–7.19) and sent them to formal session or new business with recommendations to approve. Highlights recorded in the committee report include:
• Contract 6.3 (DWSD stormwater infrastructure management) was discussed and deferred for two weeks for additional information on related property resolution and permitting (see separate story).
• 7.1: Emergency demolition contract for a residential property (contract 3084267) was approved and recommended for formal approval.
• 7.3 and 7.4: ARPA-funded construction/demolition contract amendments (time extensions) were approved and sent to formal with recommendation.
• 7.5: Amendment for demolition-related training and accreditation services (contract 6005274) — time extension through 06/01/2026 — approved and recommended.
• 7.6 (sidewalk replacement services, contract 6006862): Committee debated bonding and past contractor performance; OCP confirmed a $2,800,000 bond for the major-contractor line and the item was sent to formal without a recommendation to allow further review.
• 7.11–7.14: Public-works contracts including a civil-design-software system, right-of-way maintenance software and a conduit-leasing revenue contract (7.13 estimated at ~$250,000/year) were approved and sent to new business; a correction letter to the teeter report was noted for 7.14.
• 7.15–7.19: Multiple transportation contracts were approved and sent to new business with recommendations; among them are remanufactured bus-engine contracts, CDL/tow training, and a $1,550,000 grant-funded autonomous-vehicle-accessible transportation pilot contract to relaunch a free autonomous shuttle service.
Several items required corrected paperwork or follow-up: committee staff (LPD and OCP) were asked to issue correction letters and to supply missing affidavits or tax-clearance information before formal session. A referral (7.24) on blight violations was sent to the Law Department for a three-week response.
