Kentwood swears in four officers; police and fire present April activity reports

At the May 20 meeting the Kentwood City Commission administered the oath of office to four newly graduated Kentwood Police Department officers—Armen Husaidich, Travis Johnson, Corey Koster and Ryan Schultz—after which commissioners and attendees congratulated the officers and their families.
The clerk administered the oath: "I just solemnly swear to support the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the state of Michigan and to faithfully perform the duties of police officer for the city of Kentwood..." The commission invited family members forward for recognition and photos.
Police leadership presented April statistics: 1,416 calls for service in April and 5,421 year-to-date; crime figures included robberies, 21 aggravated assaults (with many suspects known to victims), 16 burglaries and 86 larcenies; the department reported 116 adult arrests and 32 juvenile arrests for the month and summarized a 129-pound prescription drug take-back. Fire leadership presented an April summary that included 14 reported fires, EMS activity (noted as higher year-to-date), 428 total incidents for the month, increased plan reviews and business inspections, and 84 smoke alarm installations in April supported by a state grant. The commission moved to receive and file both department reports; the motion passed.
