Kentwood Commission adopts fiscal year 2025–26 budget and capital improvements schedule

The Kentwood City Commission voted on May 20 to adopt the fiscal year 2025–26 general fund and special revenue fund budgets and to approve the city operating millage and the schedule of capital improvements. Finance staff said the budgets have been discussed in multiple prior meetings and presented the resolutions for final adoption.
Finance staff noted that the budget language includes authority for the mayor and finance director to transfer any savings to the property/building fund as needed. "...you are giving us authority, myself and the finance director, to transfer funds to the property building fund," a city official said during the discussion. Commissioners conducted a roll-call vote and the resolutions were approved.
The commission also adopted the multi-year schedule of capital improvements after brief discussion. No substantive amendments to the published budget were made during the meeting; the adopted items will be reflected in the city's fiscal documents and implemented according to departmental plans.
