Oak Park selects six finalists for council vacancy; interviews set for Jan. 29

City Manager Eric Tungate told the council that the city’s application portal received applicants for the council vacancy and proposed six finalists for in-person interviews: Tanisha Turner, Joella Dean, Stephanie Crawford, Juanita Bell, Larmender Davis and Mark Schulman.
Tungate said the city received 22 applicants through its applicant-pro system and asked council to confirm the six finalists for interviews. (Later in the meeting the mayor said there had been 23 applicants; the transcript contains both counts.)
Council moved to approve the six finalists and agreed to hold the interviews on Wednesday, Jan. 29, beginning at 5 p.m. Tungate said the interview format will be in person with the candidate seated on the floor and council asking standardized questions from the dais; he also said legal advised using the same set of questions for each candidate to reduce partisan appearance.
The interviews will be public meetings and, as with typical council practice, a call-to-the-audience period will be included at the end of the meeting, giving residents an opportunity to speak after the interviews conclude.
