Oak Park council awards $979,679.75 bid for Northfield reconstruction

Oak Park — The City Council voted to award the 2025 Northfield Reconstruction Project (M770) to A and G Construction and Remodeling of Detroit for a total bid of $979,679.75.

Deputy City Manager Dave DeCoster told the council the bid came after a public solicitation that produced seven proposals; staff recommended the low bidder after reference checks. The project covers Northfield Avenue from Seneca to Rosewood, about 1,600 feet, and includes pavement replacement and associated stormwater and restoration work. DeCoster said construction would start in summer and likely take three to four months.

Council discussion focused on scope and budgeting. DeCoster said the council had reduced the originally planned project length to fit the current-year budget, and that completing the full mile section would likely cost around $3 million. He described the chosen work as addressing “one of our worst areas in the city” for secondary roads and said the project would include miscellaneous concrete repairs and temporary mastic repairs where needed.

The motion to award the bid carried on roll call. Council members who voted in favor included Mayor McClellan, Mayor Pro Tem Whitehead, Council members Edgar and Radnor.

The council packet shows the project was budgeted from local streets funds and staff said they verified vendor references. City staff said they would do construction scheduling mindful of the school calendar.

The council did not amend the contract award at the meeting; follow-up items include contract review and standard procurement filing with the city attorney’s office.
