Council approves temporary Kingston parking change during 11 Mile construction

The Oak Park City Council unanimously approved a traffic control order on June 16 authorizing the temporary covering of no-parking signs on Kingston Avenue between Tulare and Gardner for the duration of the 11 Mile reconstruction project, which staff said runs from mid-June through September. Public Safety Director Steve Cooper told the council the parking change will open two blocks of on-street parking and ease access for businesses and nearby residents during construction.
Cooper described the request as an engineering recommendation from the city’s engineering department and said the parking signage would be covered only for the period specified in Traffic Control Order No. 160, Section 1.39. Council members moved and seconded the measure and approved it by roll call.
The order is intended as a temporary, site-specific measure to reduce parking pressure while reconstruction work is underway; staff noted restoration of usual signage after the project completes.
