Deputy Director Dave DeCoster told council the city previously awarded long‑lead scopes (structural steel, mechanical/electrical, site work) to reduce construction lead times and has since advanced about 20–25 additional scopes to reach approximately 90% of the project scope. DeCoster said staff will return to council with the final guaranteed maximum price at an upcoming meeting.
"We were very aggressive in getting the project bid out," DeCoster said, describing the phased approach to ordering long‑lead materials and managing timing so work can proceed efficiently.
Funding for the second‑round awards comes from the Parks and Recreation Improvement Fund. Council approved the awards by roll call vote and staff announced a June 10 State of the City presentation followed immediately by the Event Hub’s official groundbreaking at the fenced site.
Why it matters: the Event Hub is a multi‑scope capital project intended to expand park and community programming. The additional awards move construction closer to mobilization, but the final contract ceiling remains subject to a future council approval of the guaranteed maximum price.
Next steps: staff will return with the remaining scopes and the final GMP at the announced June meeting.
