The Newport City Council unanimously adopted the FEMA‑approved Newport City All Hazards Mitigation Plan on Feb. 27, signing a Certificate of Local Adoption to keep the plan current and maintain eligibility for FEMA mitigation funding.
City staff noted the plan was presented to the public and the consultant provided a final draft on Sept. 21; the version approved by FEMA is the version before the council. Staff explained the 93‑page document is available on the city website and a hard copy will be kept in the city clerk’s office for public review.
Council frame the adoption as a routine but important step to ensure the city remains eligible for certain FEMA assistance following natural disasters. The resolution states the city has worked with residents and partners to identify hazards, vulnerabilities and potential mitigation actions and that officials will pursue implementation and maintenance of the plan’s strategies.
