Meade County History Museum asks fiscal court to consider buying its building

"First of all, for the fiscal court to consider the actual purchase of the property," Steve said, explaining that ownership would stabilize the museum's long‑term expenses and provide space for rotating exhibits and storage.
Steve also asked that the court appoint "a committee or individual" to assist with lease negotiations when the landlord begins talks, saying he did not feel it appropriate to negotiate terms on behalf of the museum with taxpayer funds. He said he would provide the court with pricing and parcel information after speaking with the landlord.
Court members asked for the specific rent and property price information and indicated staff would follow up. No formal commitment to purchase or lease terms was made during the meeting.
The museum representative emphasized the collection is volunteer‑run and urged continued county support while the court considers next steps.
The court did not vote on the request at the meeting; the matter was discussed and staff were asked to obtain additional information.
