The Campbell County Fiscal Court voted to approve a resolution to pursue relocating the consolidated dispatch center from the Newport Municipal Complex to a proposed Campbell County Public Safety Building. Speaker 3 explained the dispatch center is a separate legal entity created under an interlocal agreement that names Newport, Fort Thomas and the fiscal court as parties; relocation requires the consent of all parties and the dispatch board.
Speaker 3 said the likely structure would have the county provide space and the dispatch entity enter a lease to cover its proportional share of operating expenses (utilities, insurance, maintenance, cleaning) and any special costs the dispatch center would incur. The dispatch board has given positive feedback in principle, Speaker 3 said, but the county must secure agreement from all parties and confirm a site and building design before executing a lease.
After the motion to adopt Resolution R1525, the court voted to meet in executive session under KRS 61.810(1)(b) to discuss potential acquisition or sale of real property where publicity could affect value. The court returned to open session and reported it took no action while in executive session.
Judge Bender and other members characterized the relocation as an opportunity to improve space and operations for dispatch while noting additional approvals and lease arrangements will be required before a final move.
