An unidentified speaker described the project as a $400,000 effort to clear debris from both sides of waterways and remove obstructive material from riverbeds near Bins Mill Road Bridge and Hammock Lane. The speaker said the award carries a 75 percent cost-share and noted, “so it cost us 103,” language the court did not further quantify during the meeting. Officials said the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will assist the county in developing bid packets and meeting disposal and receiving requirements, and that obtaining landowner easements will be part of the implementation process.
The court approved the grant by voice vote. The speaker cautioned that the procurement and permitting process will take time and that work is not expected to begin immediately.
Next steps include formalizing the grant paperwork and working with NRCS on the competitive bid process and easements; the court said it will sign and return required documents to proceed.
