Montgomery County animal shelter reports no-kill status, surge in intakes and microchipping success

The Montgomery County animal shelter reported to the court on July 15 that it maintains a 'no-kill' designation through a partner organization and a 97.4% live-release rate.
Shelter staff said the last quarter saw a combined intake of 224 animals (106 cats and 95 dogs) and reported outbound placements including rescues, fosters, adoptions and reclaims: 37 cats to rescue, 14 dogs to rescue, 35 cats fostered, 7 dogs fostered, 24 cats adopted and 47 dogs adopted, with one cat reclaimed and 25 dogs reclaimed. The shelter representative said nearly 50% of reclaimed dogs opted for microchipping, which the shelter offers as part of the reclaim fee; two microchipped strays found over the Fourth of July weekend were returned to their homes within hours.
Staff described animal-control activity (e.g., aggressive reports, animals running at large, neglect and welfare cases) and summarized fundraising and fee totals for the quarter: adoption fees, reclaim fees and donations led to $12,629 in revenue for the most recent quarter and more than $22,000 year-to-date at the main shelter.
Shelter leaders thanked county officials, law enforcement and volunteers, described out-of-county partnerships (including a dog currently in Cincinnati for a board-and-train program provided pro bono by trainers) and asked for continued community support to address overpopulation.
The court noted the report and expressed appreciation for shelter staff and volunteers.
