Nicholas County fiscal court reviewed a proposed amendment to the Community Action lease/agreement that would add language referencing recent federal executive orders related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.
Court counsel read verbatim language stating that in January 2025 President Trump signed Executive Orders 14151 and 14173 directing federal agencies to terminate DEI‑related programs, contracts, and grants and requiring agencies to include contract clauses certifying they do not operate DEI programs that "violate anti discrimination laws." The clause was presented as the only proposed amendment to the agreement.
Members discussed the duration of the contract (staff noted it runs through June 30, 2026) and asked for the exact wording to be supplied and reviewed. The transcript shows staff offering to retrieve the contract text for the record; further review and administrative follow-up were expected.
