Nicholas County fiscal court on Monday heard a monthly report from EMS leadership and approved updates to the service's standard operating procedures and two part-time hires. The court was told EMS ran 66 calls in June, with 45 originating in Nicholas County and 21 in Robertson County.
County EMS representative Mister Asbury asked the court to approve a draft SOP document intended to clarify day‑to‑day operations and compliance with regulatory requirements. Asbury said the SOPs are "just a starting point" and asked that the draft be explicitly tied to the county's personnel and administrative code; court members agreed to add that reference before finalizing the document.
Asbury also recommended the immediate hiring of Heather Carson as a part‑time EMT and Joni Goble as a part‑time paramedic. Asbury told the court he had interviewed Carson and "reviewed her education and experience and certifications," and recommended her for hire. The court recorded Gomble's effective date of June 25 and Carson's effective date of July 8. A single motion to hire the two candidates carried on a voice vote.
Court members asked for the SOPs to explicitly reflect the chain of command and to note that the county administrative code supersedes or augments the local SOPs. Asbury said he intended the SOPs to be a living document that would be updated as practices and requirements evolve.
The court approved the SOP amendment and accepted the EMS report. The hires are effective on the dates announced; further personnel paperwork will be completed by county staff.
