Broomfield City Council approved a set of fleet and equipment purchases the council said will modernize police, parks and other city assets while considering environmental impacts.
Deputy Director of Public Works Justin Munt told council the city fleet includes roughly 645 mobile assets and that the current proposal covers replacement of six police interceptors (hybrid electric), one transit van for the traffic unit, and a super‑duty F‑350 pickup for parks that requires diesel towing capacity. Munt said hybrid interceptors can save up to about 838 gallons of fuel per vehicle per year and estimated roughly $17,500 in fuel savings for the six vehicles.
Council approved Resolution No. 2025‑08 authorizing an aggregate spend with Siltahar Ford (Siltahar/ Siltahar Ford named in the memorandum) and allowing the city manager to execute purchase orders up to $870,447 (including a 10% contingency) subject to budget limits. The motion passed unanimously, 9–0.
On a related item, council approved Resolution No. 2025‑07 to purchase a replacement front‑end loader with a tree‑spade attachment from 4 Rivers Equipment for $385,883. Staff said buying the attachment will allow the city to transplant trees in‑house rather than contract the work (estimated savings of about $153,418 compared with outside contractors for ~50 tree transplants tied to upcoming projects). Staff also noted that no EV front‑end loader currently meets operational specifications.
