Tunica County supervisors approve routine business, budgets and multiple contracts

The Tunica County Board of Supervisors approved a slate of routine and capital items at its July 7 meeting, voting to accept prior meeting minutes, adopt the 2025–26 tax roll assessments, authorize engineering work for water and wastewater facility plans, accept payments to county departments and approve a series of budget appropriations.
Board members unanimously approved the minutes as read and then accepted the county’s 2025 assessment roll after a presentation by Norma Anderson, who noted the county’s assessed value declined from about $216 million in 2024 to $201,302,007 in 2025, driven largely by personal property removals such as roughly $9,994,279 tied to a business identified in the staff report.
Supervisors approved two separate $20,000 agreements with engineer Neil Schaefer to prepare the clean-water (wastewater) and drinking-water State Revolving Loan (SRF) facility plans needed to secure low-interest loan funding and to position projects for related grants. The board also authorized a letter requesting a match waiver for an Environmental Protection Agency/state grant tied to those projects.
The board accepted two money orders totaling $1,500 presented by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office and approved a fleet update that kept the sheriff’s fleet at 56 vehicles and increased the monthly lease charge by $130.72.
Other approved items included payment applications and capital project disbursements: a payment to Johnson Controls, Inc., for the county energy-efficiency project and a $121,852.45 payment to Hemphill Construction for a T C U D wastewater collection pump rehab project; the board also authorized advertisements for bids on the Tunica Arena walking trail project.
Supervisors approved the sheriff’s personnel actions (including a promotion and a part-time hire), multiple quarterly/temporary budget appropriations for departments including the sheriff, jail and tax assessor, and several public-works orders such as rights-of-entry and private-property cleanups. The meeting concluded with a motion and approval to enter executive session to discuss negotiations regarding the Harris property, pending clinic vendor presentations, and potential litigation related to donated leave and personnel issues.
The board did not take final public action on matters requiring further negotiation or presentation; those items were tabled or moved to executive session for further consideration.
