The Davie County Board of Education completed its December organizational business by electing its officers, approving routine items and establishing a 2026 graduation date.
During the reorganization portion, board attorney Jill Wilson opened nominations for chair. A member nominated Mr. Dub Potts for chair and the board voted to elect him; Wilson then turned the meeting over to Potts. "Thank you very much," Potts said, accepting the role and noting the board's collaborative culture.
Board members then nominated and approved Marie Helms as vice chair by a show-of-hands vote. The board also approved the November regular-session minutes after a motion by Joe and a second from Stephanie; that motion, and later the consent agenda motion by Marie with a second from Jeff, carried unanimously.
On a separate motion, Dr. Belcher recommended Davie County High School's graduation be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at War Eagle Stadium. "We do have a recommendation from Davie County High School for a graduation date on Saturday, 06/06/2026 at 08:30AM at War Eagle Stadium," Dr. Belcher said. The board approved the date after a motion from Mr. Hunter and a second from Joe; members noted the date was subject to weather evaluation.
The meeting then moved to committee reports and recognitions.
