Commissioners received an overview of a countywide employee survey conducted in early June: 141 responses (roughly a 40% overall response rate, and an approximately 55% response rate among full-time employees) provided quantitative and written feedback about working for the county.
Key findings: 83% of respondents rated working for Grand County as good or excellent. Top strengths included opportunities for job-related training, supportive supervisors and alignment with public-service mission. Priority concerns were health insurance and benefits, compensation levels, clarity of the pay plan and retirement-plan options.
Survey authors (county staff) described qualitative themes from open-ended questions and recommended short-term actions: department heads would review department-specific feedback and implement applicable changes; the county would increase communication about benefit options (including broker-led presentations and one-on-one interviews for employees); and staff proposed follow-up surveys and targeted outreach to employee groups without county email access (for example, road and bridge operators). Commissioners supported the survey effort and directed staff to pursue the communication and targeted follow-up strategies discussed.
Next steps: planning an expanded education campaign on benefits options, department-level action items, and additional follow-up surveys to track progress.
